Horses at Manx ChasersBreeding Livestock FOR SALE:

At Ballig Farm we breed our cattle for their very quiet temperament, meaning they are easy and safe to handle. The South Devon's have excellent maternal qualities with plenty of milk. They are efficient grass converters and through this produce a modern beef carcass with natural fleshing giving a top quality tender marbled beef.

Our current Pedigree Stock Bulls are:

Celebrating Our Latest Show Success

After a period of strong winds and unsettled weather it was with much relief that we managed to travel from the Isle of Man to attend the Annual South Devon Breed Society Show and Sale, on Friday 27th May 2011, at Harrison and Hetherington’s Borderway Market, in Carlisle.

Our autumn born 2½ year old bull, Ballig Creggan (Manx Gaelic for “The Rock”) won his class for bulls over 2 years. He then went on to win the Best South Devon Bull at the show and Supreme Champion in the South Devon classes sponsored by the Farmers Guardian and Barclay’s Bank.

FOR SALE

We are pleased to offer for sale 2 easy calving bulls (now in the UK), both able to be exported.

BALLIG CREGGAN - A quiet, easy calving bull with natural muscling. Outwintered on sandy ground and has never been hard fed. Good feet & excellent locomotion. Ideal for pedigree or commercial use. Currently at work, but may be available for sale later in the season.

BALLIG ILLIAM (click for family tree) is also a quiet bull with a kind temperament, a more compact stocky bull with good EBV's for natural muscling.
Like CREGGAN this bull has been outwintered and wasn't creep fed. Ready halter broken and handles well. Excellent EBV's for both direct ease of calving and calving ease passed onto daughters.

The two bulls are currently based in the Borders. For more information or to arrange a possible viewing please phone Paul on 07624 463032.

Both bull's are sired by TREWINT BUSTER and their dam's are originally from the renowned Trewint herd of P Rowe based in Liskard, Cornwall.
Sire was calf at foot with his mother (Trewint Jane 8) when she was placed 1st in the Best Female with calf at foot class at both the Royal Cornwall Show and the Royal Show in 2004.
Their dam's are still active breeders in the herd, following their import to the Island in 2005 from Cornwall.

Ballig Herd Health

The Ballig Herd, on the Isle of Man has no history of TB. The Isle of Man Government maintains an extremely low incidence of TB through strict import and export rules and regular bi-annual testing for TB for all herds.

Last clear herd test December 2010, and bulls retested before export May 2011. The Island does not have any badgers!!
Vaccinating for BVD and Lepto.
The Isle of Man is a Bluetongue Free Area and the herd is EBL free.

Outwintered and Hardy

All our Pedigree Cattle at Ballig Farm are outwintered and are hardy to even the roughest weather.
